A framework for risk-based assessment of urban floods in coastal cities

Many coastal cities in developing countries are at the risk of flooding due to a progressive increase built-up areas and poor management storm water. The situation gets accentuated further climate-induced natural disasters such as cyclones climate change-induced sea-level rise that adversely impact city's drainage potential. This study developed composite urban flood index consisting three sub-indices 20 key natural, physical, social, economic influencing variables for city (i.e., Cuttack) eastern India, intensity run-off being one among many. intensity–duration–frequency curve shows can experience floods with peak discharge 1320 cubic metre per second every alternate year rainfall 2-h duration. computed all wards out 59 wards, only ward has low (index value < 0.40) high 0.55 above) from flood.
